Having coffee on the downstairs patio with such a magnificent view of the Badlands was a real treat. We slept well and made our way to the downstairs kitchen for coffee and breakfast the next morning. We didn't get to enjoy being at the ranch as much as we would have liked because we had to be off first thing the next morning, but we enjoyed every moment we had. We also liked petting the donkeys, ever hungry calf, and seeing the chickens. There were lots of kids and families there. We were a bit worried when a kid started pounding on the piano in the common room just as we were headed to bed, but there is a 10pm quiet rule and it was fine. It was getting dark out, but we still had enough time to enjoy the view and eat some sandwiches we brought with us before heading off to bed. After that was settled, we met outside on the upper patio. We reserved two rooms and decided who was going to stay in which room. We were checked in quickly by a very cheerful young woman. I'm sure our one night at the ranch was an experience our friends would never be able to repeat. We stayed at the ranch for one night on a whirlwind tour of Mount Rushmore and Devil's Tower with our friends who were visiting from South America. We will be staying here every time we head through the Badlands (not an issue since you wanted to be up and in the dining room at 7:30 for all the amazing food). The only two negatives (which were VERY MINOR for us), our room was on the lower level with no view other than the window well and we could hear breakfast preparations being made starting at 7:00 a.m. Add to the fact that it is a working ranch (they grind their own wheat for the whole wheat blueberry pancakes!) with a chicken coop (be sure to collect the eggs for breakfast the next morning), calf, burros, Hank the dog and Cowboy the cat - our family had a great time. Bonfire and s'mores the last night we were there. Outside, a swing set, pergola, deck, and patio (complete with a grill for guests to use). The facilities included a game room with ping pong and Foosball tables. The hosts are a wonderful family with well trained help. Sitting on a bluff with 360 degree views of the Badlands, Circle View Guest Ranch is a must for family travelers.
